The McVideo Game
Over the break I tried out the McDonald's Video game, and found it somewhat difficult. Even after reading the tutorial I still had some trouble getting my bearings. But I did find the game very interesting for several reasons.
Although it is portrayed in a more childlike manner, with the art having a definite cartoonish quality, it seems to be intended for a more adult audience based on the issues it presents/the basic goal of the game. The goal of the game seems to be to run a successful McDonalds business. The game portrays everything it takes to do this, and describes the different steps that need to be taken and everything that the business is accountable for.
I found it particularly interesting the way the information is presented. In many cases, the game makes light of some of the controversial issues that McDonald's faces due to the nature of their business/production. For example in the tutorial of the agricultural sector the hint that is presented ends with the quote "under every forest there is a lawn", and the way the diseased cows are killed (by clicking on the gun icon, they will disappear into smoke).
And although I did find the game challenging, I think it definitely served its purpose. I found it very hard to keep up with everything simultaneously, while still keeping track of the financial situation. Playing this game overall proved to be a very interesting experience.
