i made this. you play this. we are enemies

Fresh on the heels of our discussing game, game, game and again game, Jason Nelson has released another work in a similar style. i made this. you play this. we are enemies appears to have some similar things going on, but I'm intrigued by the sense in which we as players/readers/critics/students are the game designer's "enemies." The comment in direction number 4, "stop trying to 'get it'" seems particularly targeted toward or relevant to our discussion of the game, especially since I made sure to set the game up by asking you to try and "get it" instead of "just" playing it.

So what do you think we should do with this? On the one hand, its energy seems somewhat more focused on playing with / mashing up specific online spaces, but I don't want to be a "shark with bees for hair" for saying so. Do you?

Squiggles and Antiglobalization

I played both "Game, game, game and again game" and "McVideogame". They both had messages in them, almost like subliminal messages. In McVideogame, I played as the farmer and had to grow my crops and beef cows for my McDonald's store. Some of my cows got sick and I had to hire only a few workers because the first time I played I was bankrupt in a minute. The second time I lasted more seasons but then at once my cows became deseased and I had to kill them all. There were messags that popped up every so often like "AntiGlobalization" and "Pollution" ones.

By Gauden - Posted on 02 December 2008

Game, game, game left the largest impression on me in that it reminded me of a director that I love very much, Wes Anderson. He's done such gems as The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and The Royal Tenenbaums. Game, game, game also reminded me of the movie The Science of Sleep directed by Michel Gondry.

Like a blind and deaf man seeking the bid for the presidency in a desolate land with no other living human person about, our supposed character ENTERs the BUILDING by the whim of an obsessed typist, GETs himself (or herself?) a number of items that can only be remembered -not seen or touched or listed- and leaves to move about in a n-w-w-w-e-s-s-e-w-w-w-w-s-w-w-w-n-n-e-w-s fashion with such small amounts of unrecordable information that Big Brother would be impressed and in fear for his regime.
