Facade: coming to a theatre near you
It strikes me as odd to think about Facade as an actual dramatic piece. What makes me feel a bit anxious about it as a whole is the fact that if we consider its production as a text that we read (text in the literary sense), the text is fluid and depends upon our interpretation of it. Facade itself doe snot exist independent of our reading it but rahter is depednet upon us to make it complete.

Shooting the Breeze with Eliza
As I was having a conversation with ELIZA about the troubles of my life, I made an interesting realization about interactive media. Because media is an art form, and as such is an imitation, interactive media is only a replication (simulation) of actual interactions. because of this, in order for interactive media to function, the participant must accept or buy into the media.

Unity within combinations of art and narrative
It would seem to me the the guest speaker from thursday was hitting on something that is at the heart of our classroom discussion. when we consider things like comic books, or animation, what we need to remember is that these forms are combinations of different artistic mediums. a comic book consists of both graphics and text, a video consists of multiple images, sounds, and sometimes text.

Political Mashups
After listening to Professor Rao's lecture on Thursday, I am curious as to the "danger" that they actually present. The nation accepts free speech as freedom given by the constitution. This being so, One could easily log onto you tube and post a video of her or his views on the presidential election (in speech format). this being established, what grander harm does the ability to the present these ideas in different medias pose?

Representation versus Simulation
I feel like the distinction between Representation and simulation that was made in the chapter of Avatars of Story is one that deserves discussion within application. It would appear to me that this distinction is the one that is at the heart of the books versus TV debate that parents often get into with their children.

discourse and representation
I feel like its important to understand this course in many senses. In one sense we have the understood notion of the class being to learn about and evaluate different mediums to convey narrative. narrative in the traditional sense relates to story 90% of the time.

the dot and the line
When Professor Whalen first introduced the cartoon with the dot and line in our class, I felt an ounce of nostalgia. I remember being four years old and watching it on cartoon network; although it may not have been as interesting as Tomcat, or TMNT, it was obviously exciting enough for me to remember it 15 years later.

Story mediums
One thing I feel would be an interesting thing to acknowledge in this class is that even as narrative in the contemporary tends to break molds of in terms of what mediums are acceptable forms of narrative, that evolution of narrative is not new. Originally, stories were told through gatherings in which an orator would speak and others would listen. I think that it is a bit naive to think that everybody just accepted the shift away from this and to the book version of narrative.

Comics and Art
While there are few in the artistic world (at least to my knowledge) that would contest the artistic merit of the comic book medium, I feel as though it was there where the "narrative" consideration was made especially blurry. while It's impossible to deny that there is a valid narrative in even the one frame comic strips in the paper, the sophistication of this medium has been debatable.
