Squiggles and Antiglobalization

By VilmaBee - Posted on 02 December 2008

I played both "Game, game, game and again game" and "McVideogame". They both had messages in them, almost like subliminal messages. In McVideogame, I played as the farmer and had to grow my crops and beef cows for my McDonald's store. Some of my cows got sick and I had to hire only a few workers because the first time I played I was bankrupt in a minute. The second time I lasted more seasons but then at once my cows became deseased and I had to kill them all. There were messags that popped up every so often like "AntiGlobalization" and "Pollution" ones.

Facade....Fail...

By VilmaBee - Posted on 24 November 2008

I played Facade. It was a very awkward game to play. I load it (took forever) and then I began by picking my character's name. I first choose Sam(female) and then Will. With Sam I talked to the chick about her furnoture and how pretty it was but then things got worse when I asked about their marrige and I tried to kiss her husband. They got upset and kicked me out of their house. It was a blast! Even on the way out I was shouting obseneties about a nonexsistent affair.

Surviving Reality

By VilmaBee - Posted on 09 November 2008

In my opinion, reality can be defined as two things. One is the state of something or someone exsiting, whether a place, a person, or an animal. The other is something or someone or someplace that a particular person WANTS to believe to be real. In Avatars, there were two examples of reality. One being "fake reality" and the other being "real reality".

Medival Manuscript

By VilmaBee - Posted on 02 November 2008

This lesson on thrusday took an interesting point of view from narratives in Medival Times. Our guest speaker was a proffesor that specialized in medival munuscripts and the way he started was by explaining how paper was made. I didnt realize that they were made of animal skin hides and then it dawned on me that there were manu physical and technological constraints on the text in Medival times.

"Fairness", "Grayness", "Oldness"

By VilmaBee - Posted on 24 October 2008

Our guest speaker had some really good points on new media.Because technology is so advanced now that we find new ways to express opinions through this new media. One of the examples was mash ups. Mash ups are a video or images all put together in a certain way from thier original content to make another new type of content whether that be a new video or a new song. In forms of narrative, this new media develops a narrative for the purpose of counter narratives. For example, the canditates campaign videos, parody videos, etc.

Flat world and Harry Potter...

By VilmaBee - Posted on 20 October 2008

Thinking about something that is untrue and fictional threw me off for a minute. But then when I thought about it I figured a few things out.

MEdia

By VilmaBee - Posted on 15 October 2008

The first chapter of Avatars was an extreme way to look at media. Usually when I think of media I think of television, the news, etc. But media was broken down into semiotic phenomena, technologies, and cultural practices. Basically everthing put together that I see as the "media" is a made with things that we take for granted and forget are there. Such as: language, images, and music. We take for granted the technologies of media as well, just pure reproduction like sound recording or xerox copying is a form of media.

The End

By VilmaBee - Posted on 05 October 2008

Im almost finished with Little Nemo (both Sumberland and Wonderful Dreams) and Ive noticed a couple of interesting details that caught my attention. At first, the change at the end in the end of Little Nemo in Sumberland (pages 296 and 311) was the coloring. It looked like McCay could only use one color per comic. So one day it would be yellow, and the next week it would be red and then the next week would be green.

Illusions

By VilmaBee - Posted on 21 September 2008

The essay Metapictures, to me, raised questions about the description of pictures within pictures. I wasnt sure what the essay meant by the second order discourse about pictures without recourse to language. But then I got to the Diego Rodriguez picture, Las Meninas, and it helped me to actually see what the essay was saying. I did think that the optical illusion examples were helpful to understand the meaning of the "self"pictures. I know that some psychologists make people draw themselves to help people understand their "inner self" and optical illusions mess with the mind.

Slumberland Here I Come...

By VilmaBee - Posted on 14 September 2008

I would have never thought that I would be reading page after page of COMICS without getting bored. Little Nemo is more entertaing than the usual I read in the Sunday paper. The most significant thing was the artwork. There is color in every page, action in every page, different shifts in every page. Not even every page but every PANEL. The comics dont have a single boring moment. And I dont mean that they were funny as most comics are assumed to be; yet they were just interesting.

Last night...

By VilmaBee - Posted on 03 September 2008

The comic strip "vacation time" is just like the cartoon version I thought donald is like. He is stupid and always thinks that he is doing everyone and himself a favor when in reality he is messing up lives. He goes through one "vacation activity" at a time making his nephews miserable along the way. I thought the writer had fun writing for the dog that burned the woods. It was easy to see that he had an accent of a character that would appear in many other forms of media being portrayed as the "bad guy". He has a "I dont care" sort of attitude.

Passage... always leads to the same destination

By VilmaBee - Posted on 26 August 2008

So I just finished playing Passage. At first I was looking for the objective of the game, as many video games these days have very complex story lines. For example Grand Theft Auto 4, if anyone has every played it, Ill give a summary of its plot. GTA4 is based around a Russian man who comes to America in search of a man who betrayed his Army company and he wants to find him to return the favor. There are details in the game that give the player missions and goals. In Passage the goal is simple... to get the blue stars. So I thought of the blue stars while I weaved around the green maze.
