Changes

When I was reading Little Nemo before class, I found it quite interesting because I had not read any comics with captions or descriptions below the panels before. But after a few pages, it took me a long time to read the captions so I skipped all the captions and only read the panels. I think maybe comics in 1900s had captions but it is not necessary for me to include those captions in any comics and I can still understand or guess what is going on with the stories without them.

I am glad that Winsor MaCay did not use include captions later in Little Nemo. He used only text to give readers all the information about the comic. For example, he used dialogue in the balloons between the characters and some telegrams that the characters, like the King read to tell the whole story. I think perhaps, readers in 1900s might not know how to read the comics without captions so numbering the panels was needed for the readers at that time.

I think through Little Nemo, we can compare the differences of the narrative in comics between comics in the past and now. We can discover there have been a lot of changes in comics.
