An Approach to Webcomics

This is a collectively authored book about webcomics. In the pages listed and linked below, we offer our perspective on this unique form of graphic expression. We argue that webcomics are a unique comic genre, immanently dependent on the digital affordances of the Internet. Unlike their print predecessors, webcomics offer new possibilities for form, interactivity, instant publication, and close involvement between authors and their audiences. These chapters explore those possibilities — documenting their origins and speculating on their future direction — by using images and examples from the best and most popular webcomics out there today to argue that webcomics can and should be studied in a scholarly, systematic way.
